BMH Buzz Week 3: The second piece

 Campus News: A review of the Academic Workshop at Boston Media House

On this week it was time to put together my second piece. Seeing how big my first article was, i decided to turn the lens on a smaller piece that would capture campus life. Initially i wanted this piece to be an invitation to students to attend the workshop but instead i attended the workshop and compiled a whole review of it. It highlights important discussions that took place on the workshop and the importance of attending them. It speaks to students directly in its tone and it sort of reminds the reader that BMH Buzz is a student magazine after all. For this piece to come together I only had to attend this workshop, take notes through out and ask the "right" questions. Overall, this piece became the heartbeat of the magazine because it is not only informative but it also encourages students, which I believe is what a student magazine should do.

 Designing the Buzz Magazine The final week was a ton of design and layout decisions. The goal was to produce a cover that would represent who we are and a contents page that will simply guide the reader.  I settled for bold typography while sticking to the colors that match the Boston Media House logo. I kept the same colors for the content page to make navigation seamless.  I moved on to the final edits, selecting layouts and proofreading. Every detail mattered for this magazine to come together. For me, it was not just a project, it was an experience to have done something like this all on my own.

Week 2: The First Article — Behind the Byline: The Realities of Journalism Students

 This week, i dove onto my first article- behind the byline: the realities of journalism students. A raw and reflective feature piece that truly explores what it means to study journalism in today's world. A piece that aims to shine a light on student perspectives and exploring their different journeys. I went on to interview two pupils, one of which is a recent graduate from another college institution. I wanted this piece to represent the students, and for it to set the tone for the entire magazine. As a fellow journalism student i also incorporated personal views and knowledge to put this piece together, along with some research.  It did not only incorporate student views but it also delved on how the field of journalism is portrayed on popular media. Overall, the piece became bigger than expected but hopefully it followed all necessary ethical guidelines of writing a news story as it was my first time publishing a real article.

BMH Buzz week 1:From Brainstorm to Blueprint — Ideation, Planning & Presentation

 Creating a magazine from scratch is no walk in the park. While the idea of it was exciting at first, it didn't go without challenges. Week one was all about laying the foundation.  It began with brainstorming sessions that took me 2 weeks prior to doing the oral presentation. For the presentation I had to share ideas i had for the magazine and which stories i wanted to feature. Since I decided to work on producing the magazine alone i obviously had to take up all different roles and come up with a strategy of what to start and end with, along with deadlines for each task.  I had to explore different themes such as student identity, journalism and familarize myself with the official BMH Buzz online magazine to explore the cultural pulse of BMH.
